Pola-pop City @ Te Papa 2013

In response to the exhibition Warhol: Immortal, you are invited to help build a cardboard city to reflect Warhol’s playful approach to artistic expression.

I will take Polaroid photos during the course of the day, which will be exhibited alongside the 3D works. Participants get to take away their image as a keepsake and art work inspired by Warhol Polaroid photographs of celebrities in the 20th century.

The goal of this event is to provide an engagingly fun activity that lets visitors build, make, and participate as artists, rather than just ‘looking’ at art in the traditional sense.

Janet Lilo’s Pola-Pop City was a temporary art project that took place in Te Papa’s Wellington foyer on 3 August 2013. The project engaged with the architecture of the building, including Ralph Hotere and Bill Culbert’s monumental commissioned art work VOID (2006). The circular fluorescent lights that are visible in some parts of this video are part of VOID. For more info on that work follow this link
